The herdsmen are being accused of allowing their cattle to destroy farms, while the Fulanis themselves are alleged to be raping women in the area and also killing farmers who confront them about their nefarious activities.
A few days ago, the Agogo Youth Association, led by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Akim North, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, issued a stern warning and a 24-hour ultimatum to the herdsmen to leave Agogo and its environs or risk dire consequences.
The youth also admonished traders and drivers in the area not to transact any business whatsoever with the Fulanis after the expiration of the ultimatum, failing which would result in offending parties facing their wrath.
Meanwhile, two people have been reportedly killed in Agogo in the Ashanti Region in a renewed clash that erupted between the Fulani herdsmen and local farmers in the area on Tuesday.
Speaking to the issue in an interview on Peace FM morning show ‘Kokrokoo’ Ghana’s Highlife maestro Abrantie Amakye Dede accused the Agogo police of being in bed with the Nomads.
According to him, had the police been doing their work well the residents of Agogo will not be up in arms with the herdsmen.
Abrantie who hails from Agogo said the only way out is for the police to implement a 2012 High Court ruling which demanded the eviction of the nomads from some 12 communities in Agogo.
“The Agogo police commander is not helping residents…he likes to protect the Fulani herdsmen than indigenes of Agogo…when something happens, he supports the Fulani herdsmen against us and that is not helpful. If the police will do their duties diligently and ensure that the court order is followed to the latter, this Fulani issue will be no more and there will be peace…” he stated.
